Politeness only for school song

I went to another school for their school function. At the end of the function the students were asked to sing the school anthem - vidya dadati vinayam, vinayam dadati patratam - which means  Education makes us humble and humility enables us to achieve competence. However this message was not being practiced and humility was not part of the culture of the school. I noticed that for the last one hour the tone that the principal was using to give instructions to her subordinates or the tone in which some teachers were interacting with the students was clearly not polite. Perhaps it was too much to expect respectful attitude towards the worker serving us water. Humility was merely a mention in the school anthem; I could not see it being practiced by educated people in the ‘temple of education’.
